FAQ

Common questions about how FootPlay works.

About FootPlay>

What is FootPlay?

FootPlay is a football competition management SaaS app. It helps organisers manage events, tournaments, teams, fixtures, registrations, player profiles, and selected public pages.

What do Event, Tournament, Team, Fixture, and Player mean?

Event: top-level competition workspace. Tournament: a competition inside an event (league/knockout/season). Team: a club/squad that can appear across tournaments. Fixture: one scheduled match between teams inside a tournament. Player: athlete profile that can be registered to teams/tournaments.

What is the hierarchy in FootPlay?

Hierarchy is: Event -> Tournament -> Fixture, with Teams and Players linked into tournaments and fixtures. In short: create an Event, add Tournament(s), register Teams/Players, then create/manage Fixtures and results.

Competition Setup>

How do I create an event?

Step 1: Go to Competitions and click Create. Step 2: Select Event and enter name/details. Step 3: Save. If blocked by limits, upgrade from Pricing.

How do I create a tournament?

Step 1: Open your event page. Step 2: Click Create Tournament. Step 3: Enter tournament name, season, and format (League, Round Robin, or Knockout). Step 4: Save, then open the tournament to add teams, players, and fixtures.

How do I create teams and players?

Teams: Open a tournament, go to Teams, click Add Team, then select an existing global team or create a new one. Players: Open the same tournament, go to Players, click Add Player, and either link an existing global player or create a new profile and register it to that tournament team.

How do I bulk import players to a team in a tournament?

Open the team page with a tournament parameter (example: /teams/<team-slug>?tournamentId=<tournament-id>). Click Import, upload CSV, then review each row. For each row, choose an existing suggested player to avoid duplicates or keep Create New Profile to create a new global profile and register it to that team in that tournament.

Can I keep competitions private?

Yes. FootPlay supports public/private visibility controls. Content marked public may be visible on publicly accessible pages.

Fixtures & Match Management>

How do I generate fixtures for League or Round Robin?

Step 1: Open the tournament and go to Fixtures. Step 2: Click Generate Fixtures. Step 3: Set start date/time, legs, match frequency, optional skip dates, and venue. Step 4: Generate and review. League/Round Robin schedules are created from your registered teams.

How do I generate fixtures for Knockout tournaments?

Step 1: Set tournament format to Knockout. Step 2: Open Fixtures and click Generate Fixtures. Step 3: Choose 1 leg or 2 legs. For 2 legs, set leg gap (Weekly/Fortnightly/Monthly). Step 4: Generate to create bracket rounds automatically (including byes where needed).

Can I add fixtures manually instead of auto-generating?

Yes. In the tournament Fixtures tab, use Add Fixture to create one match at a time with home/away teams, date, time, venue, and round details.

How do I update fixtures?

Step 1: Open the tournament -> Fixtures and open a fixture card. Step 2: Click Edit Match. Step 3: Update date/time/round/status/score (and winner for drawn knockout fixtures when required). Step 4: Save Changes. Standings, Hall of Fame stats, and public views update from the saved result.

Role-Based How-To>

What can a Player do?

Players can view public competition pages, maintain their own player profile, and request claim access for profiles they own. Players do not automatically get owner or team-admin privileges just because a profile exists.

Is there a public sample Journey page?

Yes. Master-admin sample journey: /players/ujjwal-kc/journey

What can a Team Admin do?

A team admin can manage team-level operations for assigned teams (for example roster/operational updates where enabled) and can help run tournament workflows that the owner has delegated. Team admins do not become event/tournament owners.

What can an Owner do?

Owners control event/tournament setup, visibility, fixtures, scoring settings, private access approvals, and admin delegation. Owners can create tournaments, add teams/players, generate or manually add fixtures, edit results, and manage claims/access from Control Center.

How does an owner add or remove Team Admins?

Go to /admin/control. In Team Admin controls, invite/assign admins to a team (or approve pending requests), and remove admins when needed. Changes apply to the specific owner-team assignment, not global ownership.

How do I bulk create global player profiles from Control Center?

Go to /admin/control -> Players -> Bulk Import CSV. Upload player rows (name/player_name, optional number, optional position). In review, each row shows suggested existing profiles. If you select an existing profile, that row is excluded from new-profile creation automatically. Only rows left as Create New Profile are created as new global player profiles.

Who is allowed to update match scores?

Fixture updates are restricted to authorized users (owner, and delegated managers where allowed). Open the fixture card, click Edit Match, update score/status, then save. Invalid setups (for example same home/away team) are blocked before save.

Private Access & Claims>

How does private access work for events and tournaments?

Use private join codes from Public Directory to request/join private access. Owners manage access in Control Center under Manage Private Access, where approved users can be revoked from private events and eligible private tournaments.

Where do I revoke private access?

Go to /admin/control -> Manage Private Access. Use the Events accordion for private-event members, and the Tournaments accordion for standalone private tournaments and private tournaments inside public events. Click Revoke Access and confirm.

How does player claiming work?

A user can request a player profile claim. The relevant owner/admin reviews and approves or rejects the request according to current permissions.

Billing & Subscription>

How do subscriptions and limits work?

Paid plans are billed through Stripe and have plan-specific limits (such as event, tournament, and storage limits). The app enforces limits before creating or uploading.

How do cancellations and renewals work?

Auto-renew is disabled. Plans must be renewed manually before expiry. Access continues until the end of the current paid period unless otherwise required by law.

Are refunds available?

Refund handling is assessed case-by-case and does not limit rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer laws (including Australia and New Zealand consumer protections).

How do I purchase or change plans?

Step 1: Go to Pricing and choose monthly/annual. Step 2: Complete Stripe Checkout. Step 3: Open Subscription & Billing to sync status and manage billing.

Player Journey Access>

What is Player Journey access?

Player Journey is a story-style profile experience for a player, including clubs, timeline moments, awards, and milestones. Sample Player Journey

Is Player Journey free?

During an active introductory promotion, Journey is free to access. After promotion ends, Journey requires a one-time A$10 unlock per player profile.

How can Journey be enabled for a player?

There are two ways: the player owner can sign in and unlock Journey, or anyone can gift Journey access for that player with a one-time A$10 payment.

Does the one-time Journey unlock expire?

No. Journey unlock is a one-off payment and remains enabled for that player profile.

Support & Policies>

How do I add sponsors?

Step 1: Open Sponsors on team/event/tournament page. Step 2: Upload logo and set name/category. Step 3: Save. Sponsor actions depend on active plan access.

Where is my data stored and how is it used?

We store account, competition, and access-control data needed to run the service. See the Privacy Policy for details on collection, use, security, retention, and cross-border processing.

Do you offer uptime or outcomes guarantees?
